Imhotep Real Father of Medicine?

Imhotep: The Egyptian God of MedicineImhotep (Imhetep, Greek Imouthes) is one of the world's most famous ancients, and his name, if not his true identity, has been made even more famous by various mummy movies. Today, the world is probably much more familiar with his name then that of his principal king, Djoser. Imhotep, who's name means "the one that comes in peace, God of medicine, prince of peace", existed as a mythological figure in the minds of most scholars until the end of the nineteenth century when he was established as a real historical person.

The Egyptians - not the ancient Greeks - were the true fathers of medicine, according to a study that pushes back the origins by at least a millennium. Says Roger Highfield Science Editor for Telegraph.co.uk

Scientists examining documents dating back 3,500 years say they have found proof that the inception lies not with Hippocrates (460BC-370BC) and the Greeks but in ancient Egypt and the likes of Imhotep (2667BC - 2648BC), who designed the pyramids at Saqqara and was elevated to become the god of healing.

There is evidence that the Egyptians, and perhaps Imhotep also, diagnosed and treated more than 200 diseases, among them 1 diseases of the abdomen, 11 of the bladder, l0 of the rectum, 29 of the eyes, and 18 of the skin. They knew how to detect disease by the shape, color, or condition of the visible parts of the body, as the skin, hair, nails, tongue. They treated spinal tuberculosis, gallstones, appendicitis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, mastoid diseases, and dental caries. They practiced surgery, knew of auscultation, and extracted medicine from plants. They were also familiar with the position and functions of the stomach, the lungs, and other vital organs.

Imhotep, it is said, knew of the circulation of the blood, which is 4000 years before it was known in Europe. This could be true because Egyptian civilization lasted for 6000 years, which was sufficiently long for its thinkers and scientists to have carried research along most lines to a high degree. Egypt excelled in architecture we know, and as regards medicine, Homer said in the Odyssey, "In Egypt the men are more skilled in medicine than any of human kind." The Greeks sent their young men to be educated in Egypt, as today students from Egypt go to Europe.

According to a scientists, Dr Jackie Campbell:

“Classical scholars have always considered the ancient Greeks, particularly Hippocrates, as being the fathers of medicine but our findings suggest that the ancient Egyptians were practising a credible form of pharmacy and medicine much earlier,”.

“When we compared the ancient remedies against modern pharmaceutical protocols and standards, we found the prescriptions in the ancient documents not only compared with pharmaceutical preparations of today but that many of the remedies had therapeutic merit.”

“Many of the ancient remedies we discovered survived into the 20th century and, indeed, some remain in use today, albeit that the active component is now produced synthetically.”

Imhotep:

Imhotep was the world’s first named physician, and the architect who built Egypt’s first pyramid. He is indisputedly the world’s first doctor, a priest, scribe, sage, poet, astrologer, a vizier and chief minister, to Djoser (reigned 2630รข€“2611 BC), the second king of Egypt’s third dynasty.

An inscription on one of that king’s statues gives us Imhotep’s titles as the “the prince of peace,” “chancellor of the king of lower Egypt,” the “first one under the king,” the “administrator of the great mansion,” the “hereditary Noble,” the “high priest of Heliopolis,” the “chief sculptor,” and finally the “chief carpenter”.

As a builder, Imhotep is the first recorded master architects. He was the first pyramid architect and builder, and among his works one counts the Djoser’s Step Pyramid complex at Saqqara, Sekhemkhet’s unfinished pyramid, and possibly the Edfu Temple. The Step Pyramid remains today one of the most brilliant architecture wonders of the ancient world and is recognized as the first monumental stone structure.

Imhotep was also the first known physician, medical professor and a prodigous writer of medical books. As the first medical professor, Imhotep is believed to have been the author of the Edwin Smith Papyrus in which more than 90 anatomical terms and 48 injuries are described. He also founded a school of medicine in Memphis, possibly known as “Asklepion, which remained famous for two thousand years. All of this occurred some 2,200 years before the Western Father of Medicine Hippocrates was born.

What is Physiology?

Physiology is the study of the functions of a living organism and its component parts, including all chemical and physical processes. The term physiology literally means "knowledge of nature." The term is used to refer to the study of the functions of all animals and plants.

In contrast, anatomy is the study of structure, with much less emphasis on function. Even with this distinction, anatomy and physiology cannot truly be separated. The structure and function of a tissue or organ are interrelated, and the structure of an organism presumably evolved to provide an efficient physical base for its function.

Harmonic Vagina

An unhealthy vagina can lead to feelings of guilt and worry but all hope is not lost. When things are off balance down there, it's either because there's something that's not supposed to be there or healthy bacteria are growing out of control due to a change in diet, stress, hormones or thought. Your mind plays a huge role in the health of your body.

It's no coincidence that our head encasing our brain is at the top of our bodies. We must allow our thoughts to control our every action. What we think is our first line of defense, then the medicine. Healing starts with your head. Understand that you can heal, you will heal and you are balanced.

If you have symptoms of a sick vagina, (excess discharge with a smell, colorful discharge, and/or abdominal pain) go to your doctor, preferrably a Naturopathic Doctor who can give you a full examination to check for underlying health problems.

Because God is so good and created healing all around us, we are able to find medicine in herbs and leaves. Specific hormone rich herbs like black cohosh, lady mantle, licorice, false unicorn, red raspberry, red clover, black berry leaf, are said to be good for women. Add more colorful fruits to your diet like mangoes, oranges, lemons, pineapples etc for maintenance. Also, taking an all natural Acidophilus formula made from plants other than yogurt are more adequate. I recommend the Yoni Formula from Dherbs.com. This is an all natural, plant based vitamin with no additives. I've used this product before when symptoms (itchy & smelly) arise and within a week they went away.

Ezekiel 47:12
And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.”

Release Herbal Friday

You ever looked at a person and wondered if they're truly happy? Or you can tell they are putting on a facade, smiles and laugh to hide the agony inside. When they go home, lay in bed, they cry. We endure so much pain, hold onto old feelings and allow ourselves to live in self pity. No more! Release what is holding you down and holding you back. Be free! Yes it's easier said than done but simply stating "I have a problem that I must let go of" is a start!

Agrimony, a plant is the remedy for people who keep their troubles hidden under a mask of pleasure and happiness. The sad clown masking inner hurt by being the life and soul of the party is an Agrimony archetype. Friends are often the last to know that anything is wrong in the Agrimony person's life. (bachcentre.com)

Traditionally used in healing, agrimony is typically used by herbalist as a sleep inducing remedy-though, the plant itself possess no known narcotic properties. It is believed that when the agrimony is placed under a person's head, it will induce a deep sleep in the person and the sleep will last as long as the herb is kept near the person. The other traditional use of the agrimony in herbal remedy has been as a healing aid for wounds-applications of this herb will staunch bleeding and will promote the formation of clots in the area of the wound, the herb has been used in this role for a very long time.

The agrimony is slightly bitter tasting and acts as an astringent on wounds. The herbal remedy prepared from the agrimony is also used as an effective remedy for the treatment of diarrhea. A gentle tonic prepared from the herb also aids the digestion and is beneficial to the digestive system. Agrimony is also used in combination herbal formulas along with other herbs such as the corn silk-such a combination herbal remedy helps in treating cystitis and problems related to urinary incontinence in an affected person. The combination remedy has also been successfully employed in the treatment of kidney stones, common disorders like sore throats and rheumatism, and even disorders like arthritis in many people.

Red Wine With A Side Of Bull$hit Please.

Alcohol is good for... sounds like the beginning of an oxymoron. The thing that annoys me the most about this is some doctors actually recommend drinking red wine for better health.
Quick facts:
- Red wine is a low cholesterol food which is good for someone suffering with heart disease.
- Red wine is a blood thinner which lowers the chances of blood clotting leading to clogged arteries.
- Red wine has antioxidant which fights free radicals that destroy cells.

But some questions to consider before taken your doctor's words to heart (pun). What part of red wine is really beneficial? The alcohol or the grape juice? While the arteries may be clearing up, am I now damaging my liver and other organs?

Maybe it's more appealing to recommend red wine as oppose to eating right and drinking fruit juices. After all the deaths from drunk driving even buzzed driving, I don't think it's a good idea for medical professionals to recommend red wine for heart problems. Like many other traditional Western medical treatments, that's a topical treatment for an internal problem. Why are your arteries clogged? What are you eating on a regular basis? Do you exercise? Use your brain and discretion, you know what you're doing to your body that's harmful or beneficial!

Awesome Reads

Working Wednesday

What works for you? First things first, you are asking about what works for YOU. So what better place to start than yourself. You probably have a million thoughts going through your mind a minute. Here are some ways to map your thoughts and figure what works for and help you succeed!

1) WRITE IT DOWN

Writing your thoughts down bring them to life! Your mind is always at work and sometimes it's hard to remember everything. Ideas are always coming to you and writing them down puts them in perspective. Writing them down also help you realize whats important to you, whatever you think about constantly is your work or your passion. Make a list of 10 goals you wish to achieve in the next 12 months.

2) MEDITATE ON WHAT'S IMPORTANT

If you can achieve only one of those goals in 24 hours, which one will it be? That goal has the most impact on your life. Circle it.

3) WORK

Turn over the paper and write the circled goal at the top. List all the things you must do daily in order to achieve it.

Your mind is a powerful tool. A thought can change your mood easily. It's the same for changing your life. Take heed to the things you think about often. If those thoughts make you sad, angry or depressed, change your thoughts! It's for your own good. Wake up your inner god. You are a god with amnesia!

Helping Haiti. UPDATE

In the last post I told you my aunt was going out to Haiti to lend a hand and do as much as she can. Since she's been there we've been in touch and she says it's so much worst than what we see on the news, like that isn't bad enough. But that wasn't a surprise, but I was shocked to hear that supplies and food are just sitting in the airport for no reason. Not being rushed out like we hoped and paid for. Also, some people sent out there to help are loading up their suitcases with medical supplies and medication to take BACK home with THEM?!? How awful is that? To avoid this, helpers are now limited to one suitcase per person.

God bless the thieves that actually think they can profit from stealing from people in need. The idiotic, deficient, dense mind set that believe in stepping on others to make it to the "top". The ones thinking a piece of paper that can be duplicated has more value than a one of a kind individual, who just lost everything but their life that they are fighting to keep.

What I really want to say is &%&#* #*#&%#( #(Y&%&(#& #(&$(#&$#(!!! but people like that need a prayer too. So God bless them. Only God can judge you and God will!

My aunt was helping this one man and he said while he was buried, going in and out of consiousness, he saw a shadow come over him then the next thing he knew he was being pulled out. City Sole is her next stop. It is the poorest slum in the world from what I hear. Stay strong Aunty Monica, they need you!!!

Helping Haiti.

My aunt is going to Haiti on Friday. I'm so glad for her and the people she'll touch. She is an amazingly deep, loving, caring nurse. I pray that she is strong for herself and her patients. She is about to enter a whole new world. She has seen a lot but nothing can prepare you for a disaster.

Haiti was shakened at it's core, we don't know why, we can't speculate because that will bring further injury to the beaten, bruised and dying. They were a forgotten nation to most, trying their best to survive. Some people didn't even think twice about them. Look at them now, everyone is mentioning Haiti atleast once a day, singers are singing, writers are writing, dancers are dancing for THEM. There's tons of blessings flowing to the island. They have a great opportunity to rebuild and renew. So hard it will be, but they are strong, they will be strong and must be for their amazing future. The best is yet to come. God is restoring the years, this is there time to become one of the richest nations in the world!

Presently, they need help. When we help, are we compassionate? Helping in a way that teaches others to help themselves? Or do we cripple? Some of the organizations out there are crippling and holding them back, helping them to always be needy. That's not help at all. Haiti is about to be rid of them. The charities that pay their employees first then give the remainder of the money to the needy, that's backwards and they need a fix too.

Right now, they need a cast. To heal their broken spirits and bones. Please continue to do so in the years to come. Help in a way that repairs. There comes a time when a cast is removed.

Don't hate what you don't know or understand. Put the love back in Hate E.
